Each one cost about $200 for about 20 articles. I had to purchase one of these packets on New Media and one on Landscape Architecture Theory. The royalty to reprint an article often is more than the price of the entire magazine the article was originally printed in. It is an excellent way for a professor to put together their own type of textbook that covers relevant articles that they are specifically interested in.ĮXCEPT that often the royalties are absurd. So a packet that consists of 10 to 20 articles gets photocopied legally, bound and distributed to students who only have to pay the costs of the royalties, the paper it is printed on, and a small labor cost to the copy house. The copy house pays the original publisher of the article a royalty. Just like in college teachers put together "Readers" or packets of professional published articles. So SCF paying royalties would make it legal. I guess Arjun means the people who wrote the knowledge, not the people who MERELY collected it. I think he's attempting to circumvent the illegalities with the line "Regarding the money, Sketchucation would be paying royalty to all those people who have worked hard in compiling that knowledge". I've drafted up a long response, but I'll skip it for now. If this doesn’t happen then the poor will always remain technologically backward as compared to the rich.ĮDIT: Removed my task list at work that I accidentally pasted in here That’s how a particular section of society or let’s say a generation progresses in terms of economy, intelligence, creativity and human resource development. I strongly believe that every single person on this planet should be technically advanced and tech – savvy. Libraries which are providing oceans of knowledge to rich and poor alike. This innovation is based on the same concept on which general libraries around the world are based. Regarding the money, Sketchucation would be paying royalty to all those people who have worked hard in compiling that knowledge. They’ll gain advanced SketchUp knowledge and techniques that would other wise have been impossible. In this way poor students getting meager pocket money would really benefit from this library. On exchange basis this knowledge would be spread to everyone. The password would be revealed on exchange basis only. All these files will be compressed and password protected. We’ll upload all the SketchUp knowledge …software, eBooks, plugins we have on this forum that are costly and not everyone can afford them. So this idea of software library struck me. Money and finance should never come in between gaining knowledge and excellence. Knowledge should be available to all the sections of society. They only problem is that they are costly and no one can afford to buy them. They ‘ve got awesome illustrations, inspiration, knowledge to help us become a better architect. There are a lot of costly books in our library which students can’t afford. Yesterday I was sitting in my architecture college library reading a book on low cost housing.
